My Summer Goals

I’ve found that disrupting your everyday routines with either a temporary or permanent change can be extremely helpful for reevaluating your ambitions and rekindling your motivation. Luckily enough for me, the last few weeks have been stuffed full with so much travelling I’ve had more than enough opportunity to consider my priorities. Now, sitting in Helsinki Airport in Finland on the verge of flying home, I feel that tingling urge to push forward with the things that are important to me that sometimes sets in after the disruption of routine: the feeling of determination.

A couple of posts back, I reviewed my 2018 goals which I made in January – most of them seem to be moving along well but some of the points on the list have definitely been feeling a little neglected. I thought that the coming two months before I head off to university could be a great time to put in the effort with my goals in the hope that I can establish routines that won’t fall apart so easily when I move in September.

May Bullet Journal Setup

For the first time since I started bullet journalling, April was a month in which my bullet journal actually hit the right tone across all of my spreads. It was colourful, yet uncomplicated, condensed yet not overwhelming, simple yet exciting. It has taken me four months to really understand what I want from this organisational tool and now that I’ve found a method that works (for now) I am going to stick with it… Until my priorities or mindset changes of course.

This is why the spreads I’ve created for May follow a very similar theme to April. I’m really looking to continue the positive steps forward I made in the last month, in terms of wellbeing and decision-making, and I think having a bullet journal is very useful when going through this process.

How I Use My Bullet Journal to Track Fitness

Since the start of 2018 I have been a huge advocate for bullet journalling. Using a notebook full of organisational layouts has really helped me to stay focussed more often than not throughout the last four months – even when I’ve been struggling a little. Aside from the monthly and weekly spreads I’ve relied on heavily since January, I have had fun experimenting with pages dedicated to developing a specific goal. I’ve done this with food, gratitude, wellbeing and a variety of other things, but April has been the month I’ve turned to fitness.

So many of us struggle to get going with even the most basic fitness schedule, let alone stick at it, and so this month I have been taking advantage of the slightly warmer (and sometimes sunny) spring weather to get outside. It’s easy to make up excuse after excuse to not be active, but I think that becomes harder as the weather gets nicer. The improving weather has been a huge motivational factor for me, but that’s not enough on its own. Not in England anyway…

April Bullet Journal Setup

If I’ve learnt one thing from the last three months of bullet journalling, it’s that people change. Our mindsets, priorities, goals, moods, levels of motivation and determination, wishes, strengths, weaknesses, abilities… All of these are versatile, malleable qualities and depending on life events are subject to change.

Personally, I have noticed how all of these things impact my ability to organise myself and manage my time. Because of this, it makes sense to adopt a method of managing myself that is easily adaptable. Enter the bullet journal. I love bullet journalling for exactly this reason: each month is a new opportunity to organise myself in a way that fits my current state, even if that’s totally different to the previous month.

My First Three Months Bullet Journalling: 9 Tips To Get Started

It’s been (nearly) three months since I stepped into the world of bullet journalling. When I got into it at the start of the year, I didn’t really have a clue where to begin: how was I supposed to translate all the inspirational spreads I’d seen online into my own designs in my own notebook? It felt impossible. I wanted a way to organise myself that felt conducive with my lifestyle (and let’s be honest, in a way that would look nice too) but staring at a blank page wasn’t getting me anywhere.

I’m sure there are plenty of you out there who have yet to delve into the bujo community – but have a strong urge to do so. Perhaps you’ve already been convinced to jump into the alluring depths of bullet journalling, and now you’re just on the look out for the diving board to get you there; in other words, you know this is what you want, you just don’t know how to get started. If you’re now thinking ‘ohh yes, that’s totally me’ then sit back and relax: this list will act as your metaphorical diving board, from which I’m hoping you’ll feel more able to leap off into your first ever monthly spread.

My Minimalist March Bullet Journal Setup

It is the start of yet another month, and therefore yet another collection of bullet journal spreads. After 2 months in the bullet journalling game, I think I’m starting to get an idea of what it’s all about and what specifically works well for me. In January, I went totally minimalist. I only used one main colour and very clear fonts and layouts. It was basic, to say the least.

By the time month two rolled around, I knew which parts of my journal were being exploited to their full potential, and which spreads were remaining pointlessly unused. For instance, having a double-page layout for each week was definitely too much room and felt like an intimidating chore rather than a helpful aid. That was something I was more than ready to ditch.

My February Bullet Journal Setup

I finally bit the bullet (bad joke, I know) and created my first ever bullet journal in January this year. As I explained in my January setup post, I had resisted creating one at first because I felt intimidated by the beautiful layouts I’d seen on Pinterest. I was overwhelmed by the intricate detail, stunning sketches and of course, gorgeous typography.

In the end I decided I didn’t actually want to create a journal for it’s appearance, but for it’s practical use as an organisational tool. Something that would help me to be more productive, keep track of certain parts of my life and reinforce good habits. That change in attitude is what eventually tipped me over into a late night session drawing out my January setup.
