As someone living with an anxiety disorder, these are all thoughts, behaviors, and feelings that I experience on an almost daily basis. It is unbelievable how many people are suffering from anxiety nowadays. And it is crazy how many people do not know that the cause of their weird, unexplainable problems is actually anxiety. So many of us feel unsafe, worried and constantly anxious and it keeps us from even the most basic daily chores. When it comes to traveling, leaving the house and heading into the unknown, anxiety tends to pull together all its power and hit extra hard. Well, I am no exclusion and I deal with it every day while constantly on the road. And, if I can deal with it and enjoy my travels to the fullest – anyone can. Let’s see how it attacks and how to overcome it for good! And most importantly, acknowledge that anxiety should not stop you from traveling.

Hello everyone! My name is Johnzelle and I write a mental health blog. I reached out to Alys who gave me the go-ahead to write a guest blog for y’all! Today, I’ll be talking about being kind to yourself.

We all learned in kindergarten about the Golden Rule, right? “Do to others what you want them to do to you.” The majority of us try to live this out daily to maintain some sort of social courtesy. A lot of mental health discussions focus on our environment. We try to be mindful of how we interact with others, how we take care of ourselves, and how we think about the world around us and our experiences within it.

31 Moments of Gratitude from May ft. Just Hannah Here

After my last post, my reflections on a slightly shambolic May, I think it’s time for a little pick-me-up. A highlights reel of glittery moments. Some sparkly POSITIVITY. Yes that’s right kids, I’m dusting off the concept of ‘gratitude’ and shoving it centre stage again. Because May was a tricky one for me (slight understatement, but we’ll go with it): I struggled with illness and essays and generally feeling helplessly stuck.

But that doesn’t mean good things didn’t happen – in fact, they did. It’s just hard to fully appreciate the taste of a fine wine when you accidentally pour it down your windpipe (or if, like me, you think all wine tastes like a grape-infused oil slick). These are the most important times to recognise and be grateful for good things in life though. Noticing the small moments can help to lug us back up the hill so we have a chance at seeing the sunrise.

At the start of the month I was talking to the lovely Hannah, from JustHannahHere. She writes about all things lifestyle and I really love her content! We decided to collab on the topic of gratitude, noting down a small thing from each day that made us that little bit happier. I’m going to be honest here: I didn’t do this every single day. Life has been hectic and I didn’t make the time for it. Oops.

Bloggers Whose Positivity and Content Inspire Me ft. Cross Dimensional

A little while ago, I spoke about my desire to take part in more collaborative blogging. Milind from Cross Dimensional was one of the first people to contact me, suggesting that we talk about positivity. When the topic of positivity was first brought up, I started thinking about the support I felt as a newcomer to the blogging world, and how this has continued throughout my writing-on-the-internet journey; this is what I’ve decided to discuss over here on my blog.

My Thoughts Entering the Blogging World

Coming into the blogging world, I was a little apprehensive. Let’s face it, the internet doesn’t have the best reputation for friendliness. You hear about cyber bullying, trolls, and harsh comments being thrown around the world wide web like flyers at a promotional event for flyers. That was oddly specific, but I’m just going to go with it. The prospect of having all of that negative energy directly dumped on me sent tingles of fear up my spine.

Pressures of Growing Up Female ft. My 20s Taught Me

Growing up female comes with a whole host of challenges, much like a christmas chocolate selection box where an array of horrors disguised in tempting, shiny foil nestle inside. Of course, there are plenty of great things about being a woman, but this post is about the times when sadly that is not the case. More specifically, this post is going to focus on one of the most commonly discussed issues of growing up female: the pressure to look a certain way, or do certain things to be ‘beautiful’.

In a simple, kind world, we would be able to appreciate everyone’s differences, and also spend way less time thinking about them. What I think is even worse than the pressure to fit into a particular look, is the underlying concept that a woman’s worth can be based on her appearance; both how she naturally exists and through what she actively does or does not do with her body. Yes, it’s nice to acknowledge beauty, but do we really want to live in a society in which this is, so much of the time and evident across all media platforms, the most important aspect of being a woman?
