Finding A Stellar Nova

I talk quite a bit on my blog about seeking discomfort as a way to push against anxiety, but those posts are always rather lengthy. To approach the same topic in a different, more succinct way, I wrote a poem a month or so ago to try and describe why I think it’s so important to seek new opportunities, including ones that scare you.

blindly falling

into old orbits

might work

for a while

but exploring

darkness

is how

new stars

are found.

It’s definitely easier to stick to the things you know, but from personal experience and from reading other people’s stories, it seems that most events and successes worth remembering originate from a place of discomfort. I also wanted this poem to touch on the fact that when you are struggling, it can be helpful to confront these feelings through thinking about them and talking to others. This can be a way for you to move forward, rather than getting stuck in the same distressing routines.

Pushing yourself towards the unknown and confronting discomfort is a way we can grow.

That poem is so articulate and straight to the point when it comes to its message – I really enjoyed reading this whole post and like that you gave a little backstory / explanation as to what you were trying to convey.

Suffering from anxiety myself, I know how rewarding (yet utterly terrifying) it can be to push yourself into the unknown from time to time. Like you said, sticking to the safe is easy. xx

The poem is beautifully written with such a clear message Alys. You have such a talent for writing poetry. I agree, stepping outside of our comfort zones is scary but that’s where the most memorable experiences are made. Thank you for sharing lovely! xx

This is simply beautiful! 😀 Such a powerful and clear message and such a great way to express yourself and your thoughts on anxiety. Honestly, a great poem, you should do more poems like these and turn it into a series hun! It’s scary to go outside your comfort zone but it can be so worth it…well done!
